Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11), established by the UN in 2015, aims to make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. It recognizes the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental sustainability. SDG 11 has 10 targets measured by 15 indicators, focusing on safe and affordable housing, sustainable transport, inclusive urbanization, cultural and natural heritage protection, disaster risk reduction, environmental impact mitigation, and accessible public spaces. It also promotes strong regional planning, inclusive policies, and resilient infrastructure in developing countries. With urban populations projected to reach 5 billion by 2030, cities—covering only 3% of Earth's land—consume up to 80% of energy and contribute 75% of carbon emissions, posing significant sustainability challenges.
